La version EG.5, surnommée Eris par certains scientifiques, est actuellement la plus scrutée car elle pourrait être porteuse du rebond. Ce sous-variant de la famille Omicron, membre du lignage XBB, semble plus transmissible que d’autres en circulation -probablement sous l’effet de nouvelles mutations génétiques-, et peut-être plus capable d’échapper aux défenses immunitaires.
