TUNIS – UNIVERSNEWS – La 57ème édition du Festival International de Hammamet a accueilli, vendredi 21 juillet 2023, pour sa 11ème soirée, le saxophoniste américain Kenny Garrett et son dernier album « Sounds from The Ancestors ».
Kenny Garrett accroché à son saxophone et accompagné de Rudy Bird à la batterie, Melvis Santa vocaliste à la percussion, Corcoran Holt à la contrebasse et Keith Brown au piano, a joué son dernier album « Sounds from The Ancestors ». Un album de 8 morceaux, sorti en 2021. Le saxophoniste, originaire de Detroit, qui a joué avec Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin et Pharoah Sanders, a également joué aux cotés de Freddie Hubbard « A Night in Tunisia » et sur la scène du théâtre de Hammamet, a proposé des sonorités multiples en évoquant la musique ouest-africaine mélangée avec du Jazz, du Gospel, du Motown et du Hip-Hop.
À travers son album, Kenny Garrett a exploré ses racines dans un Jazz moderne et cosmopolite, lui-même influencé par des rythmiques afro-cubaines, qui transcendent le temps et l’espace. Dans une complicité inouïe avec les membres de son groupe, il a rendu hommage à ses «ancêtres», à sa ville natale Detroit et à sa quête musicale qui s’est étendue sur le large de sa carrière. Il a joué « It’s time to come home », un des 8 morceaux de son album « Sounds from The Ancestors », et a exprimé à cet insu le bien qu’il ressent d’être en Afrique et en Tunisie. Tout en promettant qu’il reviendra certainement pour jouer en Tunisie.
La 57ème édition du FIH se poursuivra jusqu’au 12 août et le samedi 22 juillet 2023, la scène du festival devait accueillir l’auteur compositeur jordanien Aziz Maraka.
