TUNIS – UNIVERSNEWS Selon un rapport récent du cabinet de recherche Magnitt intitulé « H1 2023 Africa venture investment summary », les start-up africaines ont levé 951 millions de dollars au premier semestre 2023. Cependant, ce montant représente une baisse de 54% par rapport à la même période en 2022. Au deuxième trimestre de cette année, seulement 377 millions de dollars ont été mobilisés, ce qui en fait le trimestre le plus faible depuis le deuxième trimestre 2021.
Cette diminution des financements obtenus par les start-up africaines s’explique en partie par le ralentissement du marché mondial du capital-risque, dû aux incertitudes économiques, à l’inflation élevée et aux politiques monétaires restrictives. En conséquence, les investisseurs se sont tournés vers les jeunes pousses au stade de leur première levée de fonds (early-stage), en raison de la contraction des liquidités. Environ 57% des transactions en Afrique au premier semestre de cette année ont porté sur des montants inférieurs ou égaux à un million de dollars, tandis que 30% concernaient des financements compris entre 1 et 5 millions de dollars.
Les principaux investisseurs ayant injecté des fonds dans les start-up africaines au cours de cette période sont Chimera Capital des Émirats arabes unis (260 millions de dollars), Tencent Holdings de Chine (43 millions), Blue Earth Capital de Suisse (39 millions), Sumitomo Corporation du Japon (37 millions) et Apis Partners du Royaume-Uni (31 millions).
Le rapport souligne également qu’une seule méga-opération a été enregistrée au cours de cette période, à savoir la levée de fonds de 260 millions de dollars réalisée par la fintech égyptienne MNT-Halan. Par ailleurs, le nombre de transactions sur le continent au cours des six premiers mois de 2023 a diminué de 50% par rapport à la même période en 2022, totalisant 214 transactions.
En termes de répartition des levées de fonds par pays, l’Égypte a dépassé le Nigeria pour devenir la principale destination des financements en capital-risque en Afrique. Avec 305 millions de dollars collectés au cours des six premiers mois de cette année, le pays le plus peuplé du monde arabe a gagné deux places dans le classement. L’Afrique du Sud, dont les start-up ont levé 290 millions de dollars, a également gagné deux places pour se hisser à la deuxième position, devant le Nigeria (161 millions) et le Kenya (143 millions).
