Alors que la Grèce, qui fait face à une canicule exceptionnelle, est ravagée par des incendies depuis plusieurs jours, des milliers de touristes ont dû être évacués de plusieurs villages de l’île de Rhodes.
Les autorités locales ont indiqué avoir mis à l’abri 30.000 personnes et qu’environ 2.000 autres avaient été évacués par bateau hors de l’île. Plus de trente bateaux ont été engagés dans cette opération.
Le front de l’incendie s’étend sur 9 kilomètres, du centre jusqu’à l’Est de l’île. Cinq hélicoptères et 173 pompiers sont mobilisés pour combattre les flammes. Trois hôtels dans le secteur de Kiotari ont subi des dégâts.
La canicule qui touche le pays a une durée hors norme, avec des températures attendues au-dessus de 44°C ce week-end.
Par ailleurs, une partie d’un pont s’est effondrée dans la ville de Patras, en Grèce, ce dimanche 23 juillet. Pour une raison encore inconnue, le tronçon d’une bretelle amenant à la route reliant la péninsule du Péloponnèse à Athènes s’est affaissé alors qu’il était en construction depuis deux ans. Les forces de l’ordre arrivées sur place font état d’un mort et d’un blessé, et affirment que des personnes sont piégées « sous les décombres ».
