TUNIS – UNIVERSNEWS – Si la période estivale est synonyme de repos et de vacances, elle est aussi, malheureusement, la période où le nombre de décès par noyade atteint des proportions alarmantes sur nos plages. Plusieurs cas de noyades ont endeuillé ces derniers jours de forte chaleur. Et comme chaque été, on peut craindre que la série noire ne fasse que commencer.
Le dernier bilan établi par la Direction générale de la Protection civile fait état de pas moins de 7 accidents sur nos plages, du 17 au 18 juillet 2023. Et pourtant la protection civile a mis en place 205 postes de secours, armés de sauveteurs volontaires saisonniers, pour surveiller les plages et assurer la sécurité des baignades et 1165 secouristes
Comme chaque année, la prévention de ces accidents sera une priorité de l’été. La Protection civile, quant à elle, a mis cette année des moyens matériels et humains importants pour assurer un séjour agréable aux nombreux estivants.
La mer ne pardonne rien. Les malaises sont les principales causes de la noyade, commente un maître nageur de Hammamet. Mais surtout, dit-il, c’est l’imprudence, le manque de maîtrise ou la mauvaise évaluation de la situation par méconnaissance des dangers de l’eau. Un enfant ou un adulte peuvent se noyer dans quelques centimètres d’eau. Il suffit que leur visage soit totalement sous l’eau. Incapables de relever la tête, ils peuvent perdre rapidement connaissance. Certaines plages sont dangereuses.
Le phénomène des tourbillons existe et certains vacanciers ignorent ces lieux et évaluent mal leur profondeur et le danger peut se déclencher à tout moment. Une vague plus grosse que l’autre ou un trou d’eau peuvent être aussi à l’origine des noyades survenant en bord de mer, même si le tout petit à pied et barbotte sagement. Les flaques, entre les rochers, laissées par la marée descendante peuvent aussi être à l’origine d’un drame. Les plages rocheuses sont à éviter car le nageur risque de tomber accidentellement et sera incapable de se relever ou d’appeler au secours.
Les causes des noyades peuvent être liées à l’hydrocution. En effet, certains nageurs sont victimes de ces accidents mortels caractérisés par une perte de connaissance brutale s’accompagnant de l’arrêt de la respiratoire. Le premier réflexe à avoir en arrivant sur une plage est de repérer la couleur du drapeau de baignade qui peut évoluer au cours de la journée: drapeau vert (baignade surveillée et absence de danger particulier), drapeau orange (baignade dangereuse mais surveillée) et drapeau rouge (baignade strictement interdite).
La mission des parents est simple : surveiller de manière constante leurs enfants, qu’ils soient sur la plage, au bord ou dans l’eau. En raison des fortes affluences estivales, il ne faut pas compter exclusivement sur la vigilance des sauveteurs en mer, ni penser qu’une zone de baignade sécurisée préserve de tout danger.
Signalons que la protection civile a réalisé plusieurs spots de sensibilisation. Sur les plages comme au bord des piscines, l’extrême vigilance devra rester de mise, cet été.
