Nombre d’estivants séjournant au niveau des stations balnéaires ont dû se faire ausculter pour de petites éruptions cutanées, suite à un contact avec les méduses sur le littoral Nabeul-Hammamet. Il existe quelque 900 espèces de méduses de par le monde, dont 180 en Méditerranée. L’espèce qui sévit sur nos côtes est connue sous le nom de pelagia noctiluca. Elle est de loin la plus venimeuse de la Méditerranée. C’est une méduse urticante dont la piqûre provoque pour les baigneurs une sensation de brûlure, des démangeaisons, des lésions cutanées relativement importantes, voire des allergies. Comment soulager les piqûres de méduse ? Les explications et les conseils de Moez Ben Salem, dermatologue.

Dr. Moez Ben Salem: Il faut regarder bien autour de soi avant de plonger tête la première ! Et si par malheur l’une d’entre elles te pique, par l’intermédiaire de filaments urticants situés sur leurs tentacules, pas de panique. Premier indice, le type de douleur ressentie : le contact avec un tentacule provoque l’impression d’une décharge électrique. Celle-ci s’accompagne ensuite de vives démangeaisons et d’une sensation de brûlure. Deuxième indice, la lésion : généralement rouge, étendue sur 3 ou 4 cm, elle laisse apparaître la trace de la tentacule sur la peau ainsi que des filaments urticants chargés en cellules venimeuses. Cette cicatrice disparaîtra d’elle-même au bout de 2 à 4 semaines. Il faudra, pendant cette période, éviter de l’exposer trop au soleil.
- Comment soulager la douleur et la soigner ? Quelles sont les choses à ne pas faire sur une piqûre de méduse ?
En cas de piqûre, la première chose à faire est de rester calme et de sortir de l’eau, la douleur pouvant empêcher certaines personnes de nager. Hors rares réactions allergiques, les piqûres de méduses ne sont pas dangereuses. Il est recommandé de ne pas utiliser de liquides agressifs. Il faudrait éviter également l’eau douce, susceptible de faire éclater les cellules venimeuses. Il ne faut pas frotter la zone piquée. Il faudrait rincer immédiatement la zone touchée avec de l’eau salée, chaude si possible, ou du sérum physiologique, éviter absolument l’eau douce qui ferait éclater les cellules urticantes non percées, retirer les tentacules restantes avec une pince. On peut appliquer ensuite un antiseptique puis une crème antihistaminique et laisser sécher à l’air. Si la sensation de brûlure persiste après 48 h, consultez un médecin qui pourra prescrire une crème à base de corticoïde.

Il faut éviter les zones très fréquentées par les méduses en vous renseignant au préalable auprès des sauveteurs-nageurs du poste de secours, des riverains ou des autres vacanciers. En cas de doute ou si vous voyez des méduses échouées sur la plage, il faut mettre des chaussures de plage, notamment aux enfants, ainsi que des combinaisons de nage ou de plongée pour aller dans l’eau. Il ne faut pas s’éloigner des zones surveillées. Les sauveteurs sont formés pour reconnaître la présence de bancs de méduse et pourront vous les signaler… avant que vous entriez en contact avec elles.
